林语堂是从闽南走向世界的文化名人。他热爱家乡，在他笔下，故乡是他童年快乐的天堂，晚年更是思乡情切。

家乡人民亦热爱林语堂。1999年10月，芗城林语堂研究会成立，研究会努力收集林语堂学术研究的信息、文物及有关资料，编辑出版会刊，加强与大陆各地和台、港、澳及海外林语堂学术研究机构的联系，积极开展林语堂学术研究，热情宣传林语堂，让更多的人了解真实的林语堂。

为纪念家乡的这位文化巨人，芗城区人民政府在林语堂祖籍地天宝镇五里沙村兴建林语堂纪念馆，2001年10月8日正式开馆。

林语堂为我们留下丰富的思想文化遗产，研究他的思想、学术、艺术成就将有利于当代中国的文化建设，林语堂的贡献必将泽被后人。

Lin Yutang was a cultural celebrity who came from southern Fujian to achievefame all over the world. He loved his hometown, which is described as the paradise inhis childhood in his writings.
